Learn the basics - German and Swiss German

Our German for beginners course aims at enabling you to cope with everyday situations, such as small talk, shopping, in a restaurant, accommodation, at the doctor’s, giving directions – and to use the appropriate language accordingly.

At the same time the course will give you valuable background information about how things are done specifically in this part of Switzerland: while learning German you will for example get the secrets of the Ökihof (recycling site) explained to you and we will give you insights about the history, the customs and the cultural life in Central Switzerland.

Grüezi Mitenand - German book developed by softlanding

Harry Fischer

For this purpose Harry Fuchs developed a unique German book, which will be used for teaching German for beginners: Motivation is the key to success! Relevant, meaningful and authentic information, applied immediately - that‘s learning German with sustainability.

Our philosophy
Integration must take place through language (easy, logically setup) + information (relevant, accessible, easy). This course book is based on local information, presented in a logical and easy way to make to cope - function - and finally thrive in your new home.

From must know to nice to know information
Learn what you need to know about Switzerland in general and your community specifically and then explore what this beautiful country is offering you - on your level of German. All information right from the very beginning!

Swiss German - understanding the locals

Most cross-cultural advisors or relocators will tell expats: „Don‘t bother learning Swiss German“. Why is that?

Some say that all Swiss Natives can speak and understand High German (”Schriftdüütsch”), or at least they should be able to: at school children are not allowed to use Swiss German in class.

Swiss German is not “one” language. It consists of a variety of regional dialects. Adequate teaching resources for Swiss German are therefore rare.

Granted, it makes sense to start with High German. But mastering some Swiss German would be ever so useful in some situations: in the shops, on the street, when listening to the radio (local news!)
