The World of Languages
In a quest to give you a headstart in German this booklet explains the similarities between various European languages and how to use this knowledge to boost your German.
Let us take you on a fascinating linguistic detective journey through centuries in Mid-Europe – the Celts, Romans, The Norman Conquest, the Middle Ages. Here we will explore where history, geography, language and culture come together, how words witness history, reflect social change, and remind us of our past.
The book will give you a close look at the evolution of the Germanic and Romance languages and discover the similarities among them, how they evolved from one another and how they influenced each other.
Based on intercomprehension – looking at the similarities of languages – we want you to come away with a great insight into the vocabulary and grammar and with the knack to transform words from English into German! Let us give you the tools to systematically recognise, decode, decifer and finally guess well what you already have in your own language inventory and what you can benefit from and build up upon, right from the very beginning.

German Grammar made easy!

German Grammar made easy!
Become familiar with the Swiss way of life and culture with typical words, expressions and stories.

Switzerland is home to a large variety of regional dialects. Although Schwizertütsch has no uniform spelling, writing in dialect is becoming more common (i.e. text messages, media, songs, poetry).
Letters and endings are often dropped in Swiss German and the remains are then melted together into one string of sounds. Words are sometimes altogether omitted. By using assimilation of letters and sounds to make speech more efficient, a “flattening” effect is created making it difficult to detect individual words. The outcome often sounds like one single long, slurred word making it near impossible to detect where initially one word started and the other one ended.

In this booklet we will tell you how to decode Swiss German. Learn all the differences and transformation rules between Swiss German and German and you will be surprised that grammar and vocabulary is almost the same as in German.
These insights and tips will help you master practical situations in everyday life.
